Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans or hazelnuts
- 4 teaspoons dried currants or raisins
- 1/8 teaspoon ground dried spicebush berries, allspice, or cinnamon
- 4 baking apples
- 4 teaspoons butter
Directions:
- In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, chopped pecans, currants (or raisins), and the ground spice.
- Core the apples from the top, creating a large enough hole in the center for the filling, but be careful not to pierce the skin at the bottom.
- Place 1 teaspoon of butter inside each apple, followed by 1 tablespoon of the filling mixture.
- Wrap each apple tightly in aluminum foil and place them, top down, directly into the hot coals.
- After 5 minutes, use long tongs to turn the apples right side up.
- Cook for an additional 4 minutes.
Enjoy your delicious baked apples!
